The corn plant has a known history of 8,000 to 10,000 years and is native to the American continent. This plant was grown in America and harvested by the indigenous people, then brought to Europe by Spanish and English explorers.

With a history dating back 8,000 to 10,000 years before Christ, corn was initially produced on the American continent and subsequently brought to European lands by Spanish and English explorers. Within a few years of reaching Spain, corn spread to Portugal, France, Italy, and other Southeastern European countries, as well as across large parts of North Africa. Corn reached Turkish lands at the beginning of the 17th century via North Africa and Syria from Egypt to Istanbul as "Mısır Buğdayı" or "Mısır Darısı," which was eventually shortened to "corn."
